Chapter 07
āIf you eat this, your wounds will heal quickly, Iām telling you.ā
āYeah, sure they will.ā
āNo, I mean it.ā
āRight. IāmĀ sureĀ you do.ā
I was so frustrated I couldāve jumped up and down.
I couldnāt let myself be slandered like this, so I was about to argue backāwhen Felix, whoād been unconscious, woke up.
āUgh⦠Where am Iā¦?ā
Holding his head as if the spot Isael hit him still hurt, Felix slowly sat up.
Then he looked around, and his eyes locked directly with mine.
āā¦Rosette?ā
He looked like heād just seen a ghost.
āY-Youāre⦠aliveā¦?ā
That stupid remark made anger boil up inside me.
Honestly, I wanted to kill him.
But Isael was watching, and I couldnāt ruin my public image like that.
Anyway, I needed Isaelās trust if I wanted to leave the Tower.
āWhy? Are you shocked to see the person you thought was dead standing here safe and sound?ā
But as for the sarcasm spilling out of my mouthāwell, even I couldnāt stop that.
āā¦No. You shouldnāt be alive.ā
What did you just say, you bastard?
āThen I⦠must be dead. Is that itā¦?ā
He looked at me with eyes full of longing, andĀ thatāsĀ what came out of his mouth.
Felix clearly thought heād died and was seeing me again in the afterlife.
āIf dying is your wish, should I just grant it for youā¦?ā
I muttered without thinking.
Maybe it was the aftereffects of coming out of the hallucination or whateverāthis idiot still wasnāt in his right mind.
āNo⦠My wish is to see my mother just one more timeā¦ā
And with that, Felix fainted again.
If we left him here like this, I doubt anyone would blame us.
I was thinking it over when Isael made a suggestion.
āIāll go toss him somewhere far enough.ā
āThatās a good ideāā
I started agreeing immediately but then froze.
āāActually, no.ā
āWhy not?ā
Because if you get too far from this flower,Ā youĀ might start hallucinating or hearing things again.
We canāt leave the spot where the flower is planted.
I was about to say that, but Isael spoke first.
āWasnāt he the one who abandoned you? You donāt need to show mercy to someone like that. Youāre planning to save him?ā
What are you even talking aboutā¦
Hey, youāre seriously misunderstanding me.
Thatās not it at all.
āItās not because IĀ wantĀ to save him.ā
āThen why?ā
āI told you. We canāt leave this place.ā
You think I want to save the guy who ditched me without a second thought?
I donāt!
Iād rather kill him than save him.
But I canāt do what I want, and this painful realityādo you even understand how miserable that makes me?
I pouted and glanced at the flower planted at my feet, and only then did Isael seem to understand.
But only for a moment.
āIf thatās the reason, then itās fine. Thanks to you, I ate that stimulantāor whatever that herb wasāso Iāll be okay for a bit. Iāll go throw him somewhere far.ā
āNo. Absolutely not.ā
I shook my head firmly.
āEven the slightest risk, even a tiny possibility of dangerāIām against it.ā
āā¦ā
āHeās not worth you taking a risk for. Just leave him.ā
He was going to die anyway if we didnāt escort him to the exit.
I looked down at Felix coldly.
Heād been stripped down to a pathetic outfitājust a short-sleeved shirt and shortsāas he lay unconscious.
āIf he tries anything stupid, we can just knock him out again.ā
āā¦Fine. If thatās what you want.ā
And so, after Iād decided Felixās fate with Isaelā
Felix, despite being unconscious, started mumbling all sorts of nonsense like he was talking in his sleep.
Isael and I treated him like he wasnāt even there, ignoring every word.
Isael and I agreed to take turns keeping watch.
He actually told me, since I was injured, to just sleep, but I insisted.
āIāll stay awake now. You go sleep.ā
āItās fine. Iām not tired.ā
āEven if youāre not tired, go sleep.ā
āNo.ā
āā¦ā
I guess protagonists of the world come with extraordinary stubbornness.
Even after I told him Iād take the watch, he kept his eyes wide open, refusing to sleep.
That stubbornnessāwho could possibly break itā¦
āIām fine, soĀ youĀ go sleep more.ā
āI donāt want to.ā
I shook my head.
I didnāt want to dump everything on Isael alone.
When Felix wasnāt around, I slept whenever I could, but now that he was here, I didnāt have a choice.
Despite me telling him to go find Leonard, Felix refused to leave this place.
Felix really had no sense.
āW-Well, itās just that⦠this place feels kind of cozy⦠sort of safe, I guessā¦ā
Cozy?
Safe?
āIs that something you should be saying in front of me right now?ā
āT-The situation was complicated back then. I really am sorry.ā
āHah. Unbelievable.ā
Trying to talk to Felix only stressed me out, so I shut my mouth altogether.
Whether he was bored or anxious, Felix kept trying to make conversation, but I ignored him cleanly.
Then he switched targets and started talking to Isael.
āUm, since you know Rosette, I assume youāre also from the Lionis Empire?ā
āā¦ā
āSince fate brought us together, perhaps we should at least exchange names. Iām Felix Büheim.ā
Even here, this idiot was talking about noble status.
I stared at him pitifully.
He didnāt even seem to notice and kept pestering Isael.
āIn case you didnāt know, the Büheim family is a count family that has produced many distinguished knights.ā
āā¦ā
āUm, may I ask your name?ā
āā¦ā
How touching. Truly.
I clicked my tongue and turned away, but then a thought struck meāI widened my eyes and looked at Felix.
āThen youāyouāve seen knights who can use aura?ā
āOf course. My older brother was an aura-using knight.ā
āReally?ā
So thereĀ wasĀ something useful to extract from Felix besides items!
I was about to rush closer to him in excitement, but Isael stopped me.
āIf itās theory, I already know more than enough.ā
With that, Isael positioned himself between me and Felix like he was guarding me from him.
āDid you forget? Iām a prince of the Empire. Iāve been educated by the best instructors since I was a child.ā
āOh⦠right. That makes sense.ā
āWhāWhat? P-Prince? Youāre a prince?!ā
While I nodded, Felix freaked out at the revelation that Isael was a prince.
But no one reacted.
So Felix was useless after all.
Well, Isael was right.
He was the Second Prince and the legitimate heir, so of course he learned from people far greater than someone like Felixās brother.
I immediately accepted that and gave up on questioning Felix further.
āN-No, but I might still be of helpāā
āNo.ā
I frowned deeply, staring at Felix with disgust.
āYouāre useless, so shut that mouth already.ā
āNo, Iāā
āBefore I change my mind and dump you somewhere.ā
āā¦ā
Finally, Felix shut his mouth tight.
A little while later, darkness fell again.
āR-Rosette. Youāre still there, right? You didnāt leave me, did you? Rosette! Your Highness!ā
Felix started screaming. His voice was unbelievably loud.
Seriouslyāwhat a colossal nuisance.
Ugh, my ears are going to burstā¦
Where was he earlier? I swear, I really want to kill him while I have the chance.
I was desperately suppressing the murder impulse when something suddenly grabbed my wrist.
āEek!ā
I screamed before I could stop myself.
So humiliatingāI felt like Iād sunk to Felixās levelā¦
I tried to yank my hand away, but then a familiar voice whispered by my ear.
āItās me.ā
It was Isael.
