Chapter – 02
A hazy smoke spread like fog.
From all around, the screams of people in agony pierced the air.
I tried to steady my mind amidst the chaos, but my consciousness began to fade.
āAh, am I really going to die like this?ā
People say that when they transmigrate into a novel, they end up living well.
So why am I in this mess?
I donāt even know who the hell transmigrated me, but if you have any conscience, make sure my life lasts a while.
Swallowing the rising curse in my throat, I shouted with all my strength toward the sky while collapsing.
“You bastard.”
For a fleeting moment, I thought I saw a man⦠but I didnāt care.
Whoever transmigrated me is definitely a bastard.
It was at that moment, when the shadow of death loomed over me, that a faint voice brushed through my mind.
[Remember. Bentley, Cecilia, and Kaā”ā”.]
A scene played in front of my eyes like a video.
A woman in a veil held me with trembling hands, emphasizing again and again:
[You must remember.]
Who?
Who am I supposed to remember?
Couldnāt you say it one more time?
I didnāt hear the last name clearly.
Just as I tried to speak to the woman, moving my lips,
“Ugh!”
A sharp headache struck me.
At the same time, my eyes opened.
“What⦠is this?”
A chandelier, the kind youād see in medieval Europe, hung above.
Where am I now?
Frowning, I tried to sit up, and a foreign male voice reached my ears.
“Are you conscious now?”
A handsome man with round glasses and light brown hair appeared before me.
It seemed that it was just the two of us in the room.
“Where am I?”
“This is the Hetis Duke Manor. Donāt overexert yourselfāyouāre not well yet.”
The man with glasses gently laid me back on the bed, saying I still needed to rest.
For a brief moment, I could see the room clearly.
It was tidy, yet had a minimalistic beauty in its simplicity.
“Can you tell me what happened when you collapsed?”
“A group of masked men killed the knights and maids, and I⦔
I didnāt even know why I was here.
Biting my lip, I struggled to continue, and the man gently comforted me.
“It must have been very hard. Thereās no need to force yourself. If anything comes to mind, just tell me.”
He asked a few questions with a kind expression.
Since I had no answers, I shook my head or said I didnāt know.
Seeing my consistent responses, his expression became somewhat serious as he muttered to himself:
“Could it be that she lost her memory?”
He asked me to wait a moment and left the room.
Alone, I hurriedly sat up and tried to think.
“Where exactly have I transmigrated?”
A parenting story?
But my body is an adultās.
A beast story?
I canāt transform into an animal.
A regret story?
I wouldnāt survive running away.
All sorts of possibilities swirled through my mind.
With a loud bang, the door opened.
“Finally awake.”
I looked up to see a handsome man again, standing with the brown-haired man who had just left.
His silver hair, reminiscent of lilies, and violet eyes like amethyst.
A well-defined nose and mouth.
Skin so clear it seemed to hold dew.
A divine masterpiece stood before me.
“How are you feeling?”
“I think⦔
Two handsome men exchanged serious expressions.
Watching them intently, my previously muddled thoughts cleared in an instant.
While the brown-haired man with glasses was also attractive, the silver-haired man drew my gaze.
Despite wearing fitted clothes, the muscles clinging to his body clearly spoke of his strong build.
Ah, I didnāt usually go for silver hair, but now⦠this is my type.
“My lady, do you know who I am?”
Suddenly, his jade-like eyes met mine.
The moment our gazes locked, my heart pounded.
It felt like I wanted to run straight to him.
Judging by my racing pulse, this man must have been connected to the body I had taken over.
Wait⦠didnāt I say I was supposed to get married today?
[No⦠but my husbandā¦]
[Ah, Hetā¦]
Before the assassins attacked, the maids on the carriage said something about my husband⦠āHetā¦ā That must be Duke Hetis.
Otherwise, why else would I be here?
The brown-haired man, appearing as my attending physician, was polite to me, which confirmed that the man with the captivating eyes must indeed be my husband.
Responding to her husbandās call, I gently blinked and cautiously spoke:
“Honey?”
“Honey?”
Has this woman lost her mind?
Calling a complete stranger āhoneyā?
Although not strangers, Evelyn and Casian were worse than strangers.
Their southern and northern origins made them incompatible as water and oil.
They barely tolerated sharing the same space, and most nobles avoided bringing the south and north together.
So nobody expected that words like this could come out of her mouth.
“She woke up after only a week⦔
How did her head end up like this?
Even if she had memory loss, she was saying this to him?
“It seems to be memory loss due to an accident.”
Matthew, Casianās attending physician, spoke cautiously.
He sighed.
She had been seriously injured, so bringing her to the dukeās manor seemed logical⦠had he known this would happen, he wouldnāt have.
“Alert the Selrdian Duke family. Also send word to the Viscount family.”
Whoever it was, he wanted her out of the way as soon as possible.
Evelynās innocent face, calling Casian her husband, made it impossible to extract any information from her.
Perhaps she could be used as baitābut only time would tell.
āMaybe I can catch a big fish using her.ā
Of course, whether she truly had memory loss was uncertain, but by observing her under the emperorās orders, they might uncover the corruption of the two families.
“Honey?”
When Casian didnāt respond, Evelyn called him again.
After thinking, Casian straddled the bed, bringing one of her hands to his face, gently curling the corner of his eyes into a playful smile.
Those nearby watched Casianās behavior in disbelief, but he was focused solely on Evelyn, replying shyly:
“Yes, my lady.”
“Your Excellency, why did you say such a thing?”
Hans, following Casian into the office, shouted.
But despite his angry words, his voice was tiny, like a buzzing mosquito.
He clenched his teeth as if to prevent the sound from escaping outside, silently demanding an explanation from Casian.
“If the Selrdian Duke family finds out about this!”
“Donāt worry. The Emperor will handle that. We just need to focus on Evelyn and the Viscount Hetis.”
“Thatās a relief⦔
Even recalling what happened an hour ago gave Hans chills.
Evelyn calling Casian āhoney,ā and Casian calling her āmy ladyā?
For a moment, he thought heād hallucinated.
And they truly behaved as if they were a married couple.
Casian had finally gone mad?
Even if lonely, he was pretending to be married to a northern witch.
Does he have a thing for women who are already married? But there are plenty of married women in the south tooā¦
Of course, she was stunning.
The south had many beautiful ladies, but seeing Evelyn in person, none could rival her beauty.
“Donāt think weird thoughts.”
Seeing Hansā expression, Casian furrowed his brow.
Hans quickly composed himself.
“Iām only setting the stage to catch Viscount Hetis.”
“But no one has seen Viscount Hetisā true form, except the Selrdian Duke family.”
“Thatās why Iāll use Evelyn. His lover is in my handsādo you think the viscount will make a move?”
