Chapter 41

Sunlight felt like it was prickling both her cheeks, and Bora opened her eyes wide.

“Mm….”

After spending several months in the hospital, it now felt as comfortable as home.

Thanks to Bora’s devoted care and the close attention of the medical staff, Kang Yoon had improved enough to walk on his own. Every night, he fell asleep holding Bora in his arms.

“Looks like Kang Yoon went to his rehabilitation session.”

Last night, they had excitedly shared stories about their childhood and didn’t fall asleep until past three in the morning. She must have slept so deeply that she didn’t even hear him leave.

“Kang Yoon, honestly… he could have woken me up.”

Feeling slightly embarrassed, Bora picked up a hand mirror and forced her puffy eyes open to check her appearance.

“Oh… I look awful. So swollen.”

But she knew for sure that Kang Yoon must have kissed her forehead at least ten times before leaving.

It had been an accident that could have left him unable to ever open his eyes again. Yet because of that accident, Bora and Kang Yoon had clearly confirmed their feelings for each other.

These days were so emotionally full that she sometimes wondered if she was allowed to be this happy.

After stretching widely, washing her face, and brushing her teeth, Bora tidied up the hospital room, her face glowing with energy.

“Bora.”

“You finished your exercises?”

Right at lunchtime, Kang Yoon returned to the room, and Bora rushed into his arms, puckering her lips.

Smiling, he gently kissed her lips, his expression soft.

“I can put much more strength into my legs now. The doctor said I still can’t overdo it, but I should be able to return to daily life soon. He thinks I’ll be discharged before long.”

“Really? That’s amazing! You’ve been walking so well lately, and you said your back doesn’t hurt much when you sit anymore. Wow, what a relief! It really feels like heaven helped us.”

She hadn’t even hoped he would become as healthy as before. She had only prayed every day to every god in the world that he would at least be able to walk and sit.

Even if he had never fully recovered and had to spend his life in a wheelchair, Bora had promised herself that as long as he was alive—if he could recognize her and love her—she would stay by his side forever.

Perhaps heaven had been moved by her prayers and devotion.

Kang Yoon recovered far faster and more than the doctors had expected.

Though they had said it would take at least a year for him to walk again, he was able to walk within four months, as long as he didn’t push himself.

Rehabilitation had been extremely painful.

There were hundreds, thousands of times he wanted to give up because it hurt so much. But each time, he remembered Bora’s confession.

For her, he wanted to stand up again proudly.

He wanted to become a strong and wonderful husband for her.

And even now, he wanted to be acknowledged as Jin Hyun-sook’s biological son and show that, as the rightful heir of the family, he was far better than Han Kang Moon.

“You’re the one who saved me. If you hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have had a reason to live.”

“What are you saying? Don’t say that.”

Bora lightly bumped her forehead against his chest and shook her head.

As he stroked her hair, Kang Yoon inhaled the delicious smell in the air.

“What’s for lunch today? It smells amazing.”

“Oh, today’s lunch is… not Bora-made. I ordered delivery. There’s a super popular taco place.”

“Tacos? No wonder. My mouth was watering.”

After washing his hands, Kang Yoon returned to find Bora waiting with a generous taco set spread out on the table.

“By the way, I’m planning to go back to Korea for a short visit this weekend.”

“Alright. You must have a lot of work. You’ve been here too long.”

“What do you mean too long? The one suffering is you. Recover completely so we can go to Korea together. We should visit Mother too.”

As she said “Mother,” Bora carefully watched his reaction.

Kang Yoon simply took a bite of his taco and nodded calmly.

“I should also go see Ahn Ji-hye.”

“Ahn Ji-hye?”

Kang Yoon’s expression changed slightly in surprise.

“I heard Han Kang Moon went to the temple where Ahn Ji-hye’s memorial tablet is kept. He must have also visited the shaman who used to work with her. We don’t know what he might do, so I need to check. Don’t I sound like a detective? Like Enola Holmes.”

At her playful expression, Kang Yoon chuckled and wiped taco sauce from the corner of her lips with his finger.

“I feel reassured having a detective wife.”

“Hehe.”

When Bora saw him lick the sauce off his finger instead of wiping it with a tissue, her cheeks flushed slightly.

“The tacos are good, right?”

“They really are.”

“When you’re discharged, let’s go around trying famous restaurants. I saved all the trendy places on social media.”

“Okay. We’ll go wherever you want.”

“Mm. I’m so happy.”

Her bright smile made Kang Yoon’s heart flutter.

He was so happy that he wanted to recover as soon as possible, leave the hospital, and reclaim his rightful place.

He wanted to proudly give Bora the position of lady of Kangsan Group.

“Bora.”

“Yes?”

As she drank her cola, she met his warm gaze.

“I love you.”

“…Confessing your love while eating tacos?”

“I wanted to confess because the tacos are delicious.”

“Then I’ll confess too, since they’re delicious. I love you, Kang Yoon.”

Holding her chin gently as she puckered her lips again, Kang Yoon covered her lips with his own.

The deep, heated kiss lasted a long time.

Leaving Kang Yoon in Dubai, Bora returned to Korea and first went to see Chairman Han.

“Kang Yoon… is he alright?”

Though she sent daily updates by message, Chairman Han wanted to hear directly from Bora about Kang Yoon’s recovery. He tightly grasped her hand.

“Yes. He’s much better. They say he can be discharged soon.”

“Ah… good… that’s a relief.”

“I’m more worried about your health, Grandfather. Are you eating well?”

“I’ve had no appetite worrying about you two. I made you suffer because of my sins…”

“Grandfather, please don’t say that. If Kang Yoon hears that, he’ll be very upset. From now on, don’t say such things and just focus on your health. You need to stay strong so Kang Yoon can have strength too.”

“Yes. You’re right.”

“Actually….”

Bora hesitated carefully.

“What is it?”

“I’ve been thinking about this for a few months. Kang Yoon and I discussed it too. How about you stay at the Silver Town for a while?”

“At your Silver Town? Why would I leave my house?”

“Well….”

She bit her lip, then closed her eyes and spoke.

“I’m worried. I have no idea what Brother-in-law might do next. If something happens and you collapse again or get shocked, it would be terrible.”

“…You think Kang Moon might harm me?”

Chairman Han sighed and looked down.

Bora couldn’t say no. Instead, she tightly held his hands.

“Grandfather. You said it yourself—there was no other choice. In some ways, Brother-in-law is also a victim. He lived his whole life without knowing his mother.”

“I’m worried about Kang Moon. Truly worried.”

“There are many good people at our Silver Town. The meals and exercise will be much better than staying alone here. Just until Kang Yoon returns and everything is peacefully settled. Just until then. Please, Grandfather.”

Moved by her sincere plea, Chairman Han finally nodded.

His daughter-in-law was half out of her mind, staying shut inside her room. And he had no idea what his grandson Kang Moon was doing.

Like his mother, Kang Moon might also curse this family and do something reckless.

Chairman Han gently patted Bora’s hand.

“I’m truly grateful you married into this family. Thank you.”

Looking at his eyes, which resembled Kang Yoon’s so much, Bora smiled softly.

The time to set everything right was finally near.

The time for Kang Yoon to become the true power of this family was close.

“Kang-yoon… you know, there’s so much I want to say to you.” Could he hear her? Bora stared quietly at Kang-yoon’s large body, lying motionless in sleep, breathing in soft, uneven rhythms. Summoning her courage, she gently took hold of his arm. “You said it yourself, Kang-yoon. That our marriage was… a perfect contract.” The days they’d shared—far too thrilling and happy for something called a contract—flashed before her like a panorama. “You always talked about it as a contract, a contract… but in truth, you were far too kind to me. Even if it was just a contract, becoming your wife made me so happy.” Outside the large window occupying one side of the hospital room, shimmering neon lights painted the Dubai night in dazzling colors. “Han Kang-yoon. I’m asking as your contract wife.” Bora’s voice, heavy with tears, trembled softly. “Can love… be part of a contract too?”
