Chapter1 part1
Night.
A light rain drifted down from the sky.
Half of Song Ling’s body was soaked in muddy water mixed with rain. The thick smell of blood mixed with the cold air as he breathed it into his lungs.
His whole body hurt as if it had been torn apart.
“Hm? You’re still not dead?”
Not far away, a large humanoid creature spoke.
It had a lizard-like head, a body full of bulging muscles, and as it spoke, a forked red tongue flicked out of its mouth. Its cold vertical pupils stared at Song Ling without a trace of emotion.
Song Ling opened his eyes. When he saw the terrifying monster, unfamiliar and fragmented memories suddenly became clear.
The end of a dynasty.
Powerful clans divided territories among themselves, while demons and monsters ravaged the countryside.
This place was called Hongshi Village, a small settlement with only a few dozen residents.
Late at night, this lizard demon attacked the village, slaughtering many. The previous owner of this body—who shared his name—had relied on his inherited third-rate blade technique, “Breaking Wind Saber,” to fight it. In the end, he was sent flying by a single slap and died on the spot, allowing Song Ling’s soul from Earth to take over the body.
Song Ling struggled to push himself up. By the dim moonlight, the murky puddle on the ground reflected a delicate face.
Eyebrows like distant mountains, eyes like autumn waters.
The previous owner had a feminine appearance despite being male, possessing an exceptionally beautiful face.
Because of this, he had often been teased by the villagers.
But now, those same villagers who had once joked about him were all lying on the ground—reduced to incomplete corpses that had been partially devoured.
In the entire Hongshi Village, aside from him, only a few people were still alive.
At this moment, as the lizard demon stared at him coldly, an unprecedented sense of life-and-death danger enveloped Song Ling’s entire body.
His face turned pale.
He would die.
At this rate, without any doubt, he would follow the same fate as the previous owner of this body and die at the hands of this monster.
“As expected of someone who has trained in martial arts. Such firm, quality meat should be saved for last.” The lizard demon spoke in a deep voice. Thick saliva dripped from its mouth onto the face of a white-haired old man it was holding in its right hand.
The old man was the village chief of Hongshi Village, someone normally respected by everyone.
“Ling boy… run…”
The village chief weakly shouted to Song Ling.
The demon turned its head toward the old man, leaned closer to sniff him, then said with disgust:
“Too old. Not tasty.”
With that, it tightened its sharp claws.
The village chief’s head shattered instantly.
The lizard demon casually threw the corpse aside and walked toward the next surviving villager.
Song Ling used the original owner’s long saber to support himself as he thought about whether he should try to turn and run now.
Although, given the current condition of this body and the monster’s speed from memory, the chance of success was basically zero.
But if he didn’t run, staying here would only mean living a few minutes longer.
If that was the case…
Just as Song Ling was about to make a desperate attempt, a faint golden panel appeared in his mind.
[Current Skills Mastered]
Breaking Wind Saber (Beginner)
[Remaining Mystic Essence: 5 points]
[Consume Mystic Essence to improve skills.]
Song Ling blinked.
He was very familiar with this kind of thing.
Commonly known as a system… a cheat… a golden finger.
Truly, heaven never seals off all exits.
“How much Mystic Essence is needed to upgrade the skill enough to defeat this lizard demon?” he asked silently in his mind.
Breaking Wind Saber was only a very ordinary third-rate martial skill. If this “Mystic Essence” was some extremely rare resource, spending all of it might not be the best strategy. If he could just spend enough to defeat the lizard demon, that would be ideal.
Unfortunately, the golden panel in his mind gave no response.
