Chapter 30
Anyway, that man certainly left a deep impression before leaving.
āOne of the two people I need to be most careful about while staying in the Ashen Fortress, and one of the two whoāll probably be the least helpful to my life. At least Iām sure about that much.ā
Whoās the other one, you ask?
Well, obviously Kin.
āEven if things feel a bit more comfortable now, heās still the one holding my lifeline, and I never know when he might change his mind.ā
Muttering to myself as I walked on, someone suddenly blocked my path.
āLooks like youāve gotten pretty close to Checker?ā
I had no idea when he appeared, but Kin was standing there, tilting his head as he looked at me.
āL-Lord of the Castle?ā
āYou even saw him off. Since when did you two get so close?ā
Doesnāt this feel like an interrogation or something? I ground my teeth, sweating profusely.
āUh, well, you seeāā
āChecker is someone to watch out for, so be careful.ā
āThatās not what I meantāā
But before Kin could even hear my excuse, he vanished in a whoosh, just like he had appeared.
Judging from his retreating back, which didnāt look pleased at all, it seemed the intel that Kin didnāt really like Checker was spot-on.
āThis is exhausting. Just exhausting.ā
For some reason my eyes were growing moist, so I looked up at the distant sky to dry them. Then I thought wistfully:
āItās not like Iām some early-teen kid. Do I really have to worry about friendship drama between grown men too? My life is way too hard.ā
Stars above, if youāre out there, please save me! Please!
