~Chapter 100~Â
âThereâs no turning back now. Get it together.â
Harriet took a deep breath to steel herselfâonly for Tez to lean in and whisper against her ear.
âYou look absolutely enchanting tonight. I imagine youâll be quite popular.â
She nearly laughed. Of course, heâd say thatâsheâd styled herself like Bella. Of course, a man like Tez would be attracted to a woman like her.
Silently, she reached up and removed his hand from her hair.
âI donât plan on entertaining just anyone,â she said coolly. âNot even you.â
âDonât worry,â he replied smoothly. âOne unbreakable rule on the ship is that no woman is ever touched without her consent.â
Still, he clearly thought sheâd come here to indulgeâjust like the others.
âHeâs going to be a problem. I need to lose him as soon as I canâŠâ
Her stomach twisted with anxiety as they waited for the boarding to begin.
Soon, the warehouse was packedâwall to wall with people. Harriet could barely believe that so many nobles had gathered here for mystery drugs and sexual games.
Then came the announcement.
âBoarding will begin now. Once aboard, weâll gather briefly at 1, 3, 5, and 7 a.m. for the departure process. Please keep track of the time if you plan to return early.â
Several people chuckled at that.
Harriet turned to Tez with a questioning look.
âNo one leaves before the final stop at 7 a.m.â
âBut⊠the other times, the ship will arrive at the port, right?â
âYes. If you feel unwell or uncomfortable at any point, let someone know. Iâll escort you back myself.â
âI wouldnât want to interrupt if youâre⊠having fun. If Iâm not around by 7, just assume I left earlier.â
Tez stared at her for a beatâthen gave a slow, amused nod.
As people began boarding, the line moved efficiently. Soon, Harriet found herself stepping onto the ship with Tez.
From the outside, it looked like an oversized passenger ferry.
Inside, it was a den of extravagance.
A grand ballroom with a stage at the center. Dozens of private rooms. Lavish services. Music playing nonstop. Stylishly dressed dancers at every corner. Male and female attendants dressed in clothes so short they barely covered anything.
âSo this is what wickedness looks like.â
The place felt like a literal description of the lustful hell described in sacred texts.
She shivered.
But the others seemed unfazedâchatting and laughing, accepting drinks from attendants without hesitation.
Tez returned with two glasses and handed one to her.
âA toast?â
ââŠIs it just alcohol?â
âOf course not.â
He grinned and downed his drink in a single gulp.
Within secondsâthree, four at mostâhis gaze shifted. It grew heavier, darker.
âIf I refuse, heâll get suspicious.â
She hadnât expected the drug to come this quickly.
âWhat do I do? I didnât think theyâd push it this wayâŠâ
Her chest tightened.
Even Cedric Kailasâso perfectly composedâhad lost his cool after taking this. There was no way someone like her, with far less control, could drink it and stay sane.
So she held the glass, pretending interest in the decor as she delayed.
âIâd like to get a feel for the ship before I lose my bearings. Wouldnât want to get lost on board.â
âHaha! Just ask any attendant where the âMain Hallâ is and theyâll bring you back here.â
âWhat about the restrooms?â
âSee those upside-down triangle signs? Those are restrooms. The public bedrooms are that way, the private ones are this way. One terrace below, youâll find⊠more specialized tools and spaces.â
He rattled it all off like a tour guideâcutting off every potential escape route.
Then, chuckling softly, he brushed his fingers against her earlobe.
âThereâs only a little Angelique in that drink. Just enough to lift your mood. Nothing too seriousâdonât worry.â
Harrietâs spine stiffened.
He could tell she was hesitatingâand was trying to lure her further in.
âDonât worry,â he added. âThe welcome drink only contains a small amount. Itâs too expensive to be handed out freely. If you want moreâthe kind that actually âworksââyou buy it from those people in black.â
âW-whatâs the price?â
âMore than what youâd pay outside. A hundred dirhams per pill. Itâs included in the overall cost of the party, really. But you donât have to worry about that.â
He lifted her hand gently.
A mark still gleamed on her skinâstamped there by the attendant before boarding.
âFirst-time female guests drink for free.â
âSo thatâs what the âvery expensiveâ stamp was forâŠâ
She forced a weak smile.
At this point, she couldnât refuse without making a scene.
âFine. Just a little. Iâll be fine.â
Trusting Tezâs wordâjust for nowâHarriet tilted the glass and drank.
The taste was pleasantâfragrant and sweet.
But for someone who rarely drank, even the smallest amount was enough. Her body felt like it had taken off from the ground.
âHaaâŠâ
Tez caught the change in her breath instantly. He wrapped an arm around her waist.
âEven your sighs are seductive.â
He was leading her somewhere. She couldnât resist. Her steps followed hisâslow and light.
âYou said⊠it was only a littleâŠâ she murmured, her last act of resistance.
Tez chuckled.
âOnly a little for me. For someone with no experience⊠you might feel it more than expected.â
âLiarâŠâ
âI didnât lie. But if it makes you feel better, I apologizeâHarriet.â
He leaned inâclose enough that she thought he might kiss her.
That single wordâkissâsnapped something back into focus.
She thought of Cedric.
That voice. The heat in his breath. The low, trembling laughter that once echoed against her lips.
âWhat the hell am I doing?â
Sheâd nearly let herself fall for Tezâs charm.
That realization jolted her.
Straightening her spine, she gently but firmly pushed him away.
âIn that case⊠should we part ways here?â
âHa! Getting rid of me already?â
âWith a clear head like this⊠itâd be a bit embarrassing, you know.â
Sheâd caught him off guard. He hadnât expected her to resistânot now.
But Tez was an experienced womanizer. He didnât let it show.
Instead, he laughed and released her with grace.
âHahaha! Very well. If you change your mind, Iâll be in that room. Even if someone else is with meâdonât hesitate. Iâll send them away for you.â
The thought made her stomach turnâbut she smiled and nodded, backing away slowly.
Once he vanished into the crowd, she pulled herself behind a column near the servant corridor and let out a long, shaky breath.
âGod⊠I underestimated this.â
It hadnât even been that long since she boardedâbut already, people were lining up in front of the men in black, buying pills like they were candy.
And thenâjust popping them in with their drinks.
All around her, people were collapsing into plush cushions, giggling, gasping, and moaning.
âWhen are they going to bring out the brooch?â
Her heart pounded.
Sheâd separated from Tez. Now she had to stay hidden and wait for the brooch to be presented as a prize.
If she couldnât win it, she at least needed to see who did.
âItâll probably happen on that stage. I need to stay close⊠but out of sight.â
She thought the hardest part would be winning the prize.
She was wrong.
What followed was a living nightmare.
All around her, people began shedding their last remains of shame. She was forced to witness increasingly lewd, unthinkable acts.
âKyahaha!â
âYah! Yah!â
âAhn! MmâAh!â
âHhâHhâŠâ
âUgh! Aha!â
The sounds were animalisticâgroaning, squealing, and panting.
This ship was hell. The lowest circle.
âGod, please⊠protect me in this den of sin. Let me leave unharmed.â
Harriet squeezed her eyes shut, turning her head away, reciting a prayer in her mind.
Time dragged on. Every second felt like an hour.
The drug in her drink lingered, refusing to fade.
Her body itched. Her heartbeat quickened. Her gaze kept drifting to scenes she didnât want to see.
âWhen will this wear offâŠ?â
Her lips went dry. And thenâmemories rushed forth. Ones she had buried deep.
âDonât go. Stay with me.â
âYou want this too, donât you?â
Cedricâs voice. His breath against her skin. The delicious heat of his lips. The low, thrilling laughter that rattled her bones.
âThis is insane.â
She clenched her teeth hard, fighting to stay grounded.
