Chapter 11
âPlausible Fabrication?â
What is this supposed to be?
I narrowed my eyes slightly and stared at the description window.
It grants a strange persuasiveness?
âWhat does that even mean? Persuasiveness? Donât tell me this lets me scam people or something?â
Just like that âUnbeatable, Ever-Victorious Strategyâ from before, why do all the rewards from the Divine Messenger feel like this?
What exactly is the Divine Messenger trying to make me do?
If itâs a main quest reward, shouldnât it be something amazing?
âI was at least expecting something like âEvening Glow Nymphâs Secret Art 2.ââ
I glared at the ring.
It didnât look like a diamond. It was a silver ring with a small stone in the centerâa strange mix of white and gray.
âWell, I got it anyway⊠might as well try wearing it.â
I slipped the ring onto my right index finger.
It fit perfectly, like it had been custom-made.
As I turned my hand around, examining it, I heard a knock.
âMiss Aigle, itâs Nora.â
âCome in.â
At my permission, the maid Nora entered and calmly began tidying my bedding.
âThe Count requests that you join him for lunch. Please prepare and come down to the dining room.â
âO-Okay?â
Ah⊠here it comes.
âAlright. I guess I should get ready right away.â
âThen please get out of bed, miss.â
âUgh⊠I donât want to go.â
Nora skillfully guided me as she helped me get dressed.
âWhat kind of excuse am I supposed to give UncleâŠ?â
I didnât have a good one.
Frowning, I thought for a momentâthen shrugged.
âWell⊠I probably wonât get scolded.â
Itâs not like I did anything bad, right?
I wasnât the type to dwell too long on one problem anyway, so I decided to just relax.
âItâll work out somehow.â
After finishing my preparations, I headed to the dining room.
My aunt and Lily were already seated.
âYouâre here? Sit down.â
âYes, Aunt. Wow, itâs fish today. It smells amazing!â
Clutching my hungry stomach, I sat down.
Since the day had been repeating, Iâd been eating the same meals for days.
I wasnât picky, but even I got tired of repetitionâso seeing something new made me happy.
âNo more broccoli soup and chicken for a while.â
As I sat down, Lily glared at me.
âYouâre seriously talking about food right now? Donât try to dodge the topic like yesterday!â
âGood afternoon, Lily.â
âIs this really the time for greetings?!â
âLily, donât raise your voice.â
Just as my aunt tried to calm her, the dining room door opened and my uncle entered.
âYouâre all here.â
Without much comment, he took his seat at the head of the table and began eating.
My aunt and Lily straightened up and followed suit.
I casually picked up my fork as well.
Soon, only the sound of utensils filled the room.
Lily, who clearly hated the silence, forced herself to speak.
âAhâby the way, did you hear? Flora Dress Shop made a new fabric!â
âOh yes, I heard,â my aunt replied quickly. âApparently, reservations are already pouring in. I was thinking we might commission outfits there for the next banquet.â
Both of them were trying to ease the awkward atmosphere.
But my uncle remained silent.
I also quietly focused on my food.
âItâs not like this is the first time Uncleâs made things awkward⊠those two really suffer every time.â
If they just ignored it like me, it wouldnât bother them at all.
âŠOh. Come to think of it, Iâm the one who caused this atmosphere.
Reflecting slightly, I continued eating.
Soon, my uncle finished his meal, set down his utensils, and looked at me.
âSo, Aigle.â
At his words, my aunt and Lily both fell silent at the same time.
The room became completely still.
âYes, Uncle.â
âYesterdayâŠâ
He frowned slightly, as if choosing his words, then let out a sigh.
âWhat exactly did you do?â
At that question, I slowly set down my utensils.
âWell⊠about thatâŠâ
Alright, time to think, Aigle.
How do I explain this naturally?
As I hesitated, Lily suddenly burst out:
âBig sisâyouâre a mage, arenât you?!â
I blinked at her.
âA mage?â
âThe magic circle at the banquet! And I heard you caught a cheating gambler at the casino too!â
My aunt gasped.
âMy goodness, Aigle. Is that true? You went to a casino?â
âAh⊠wellâŠâ
âThat place is dangerous. Even if youâre an adult now, how could you go without telling us?â
âThere were circumstancesâŠâ
My aunt, being conservative, really disliked casinos.
But I couldnât explain my situation, so I just laughed awkwardly.
Lily continued, as if exposing me:
âThey said she guessed every card the dealer gave! If thatâs not magic, what is?!â
âThatâs not it. Magic use is illegal in casinos.â
âThen how did someone like you guess the cards?â
ââŠObservation?â
A lie.
Lily snorted.
âObservation? From someone as clueless as you? Just admit you secretly used magicâthat makes more sense!â
She kept going nonstop, just like last night.
Watching this, my uncle spoke in a slightly stern voice:
âLily Atlas.â
She flinched immediately and straightened up.
Satisfied, my uncle turned back to me.
âIs it true? Can you use magic?â
My aunt tilted her head.
âCome to think of it, your mother was a mage. When did you learn?â
Lily added confidently:
âHow could you hide something like that? Youâre so sneaky!â
At this point, I had to think carefully.
âOriginally, I was going to say I used an ancient artifact from Mom to catch the assassinâŠâ
But maybe saying Iâm a mage is easier.
The quest wasnât even fully over yet. Who knows what might happen again?
I couldnât keep using the same excuse.
And itâs not like being a mage requires certification.
âBesides⊠I am a nymph. I can use mana.â
So technically, itâs not wrong.
Even if the only magic I can use is changing my hair and eye colorâŠ
Still, it counts!
âAnd I even learned a new nymph technique from the quest reward!â
Having decided, I spoke calmly:
âYes. I can use magic. I only realized it recently, though.â
My uncleâs eyes widened slightly.
âYou learned on your own?â
âWhy didnât you tell us?â
They began firing questions.
I hesitated, thinking of excuses.
âWell⊠I was surprised too, so I wanted to be sure first⊠and self-study⊠haha⊠it just kind of happened!â
They both looked at me skeptically.
Maintaining a smile, I added:
âMy mother was a great mage, so maybe I inherited her talent? Though Iâm not very skilled yet.â
âThe Duke of Lafmen?â
âI met him at a banquet recently. He asked for my help catching the assassin targeting Lady Ijansel Lafmen.â
âWhat banquet was that? The Duke rarely attends.â
âAnd he asked you for help? When you just awakened your magic?â
âMaybe⊠I seemed trustworthy? Hahaha!â
Even I knew that sounded ridiculous.
They clearly didnât believe me.
Lily shouted:
âDoes that make any sense?!â
âWell⊠no.â
But I couldnât tell them the truth.
I gave an awkward smile.
My uncle held his head.
âAigle, stop dodging and tell us honestly. As your guardian, I need to know everything.â
Unfortunately, I couldnât focus on him.
A notification window suddenly appeared.
<Plausible Fabrication> effect activated!
Your words are granted a strange persuasiveness!
The persuasiveness remains even after the time limit!
First use: Effect is tripled, extending duration!
Time Remaining: 6:00:00
At the same time, the ring on my hand flashed.
And instantlyâ
The suspicious looks from my family changed completely.
âI see.â
âThat makes sense.â
âWhen has she not caused trouble anyway?â
ââŠHuh?â
While I stood there confused, they began whispering among themselves.
âNormally, self-taught magic would be impossibleâbut if she inherited talent from a great mage mother, itâs plausible.â
âExactly. And the Duke just came of ageâmaybe he would ask a newly awakened noble girl for help.â
âAnd catching a cheating gambler on your first casino visit⊠not impossible.â
âRight, right.â
They nodded as if theyâd reached a perfect conclusion.
âUmâŠâ
âThank you for telling us, Aigle.â
âOh dear, the food is getting cold. Letâs finish lunch and discuss what to do next.â
âTch. Why can only you use magic? I donât like it.â
At their sudden change in attitude, I tilted my head in confusion.
