Chapter 1
Prologue
Bang—!
Suddenly, the door to the cabin shattered, and four men stormed in.
The men, backs to the light, wore strange clothing and each exuded a mysterious aura.
Before I could even realize it was a dream, my eyes met those of a red-haired man.
My body lost all willpower and began trembling uncontrollably. I gasped and rubbed my hands together frantically.
“S-sorry… I did it because I wanted to live.”
“You wanted to live? You think anyone here didn’t?”
At that moment, a man in a robe pushed past the red-haired one and removed his hood.
When he held out his palm, a massive magical circle expanded as if it were about to swallow me whole.
“So this girl is Heiton’s younger sister?”
A flash of murderous intent burned in his eyes as he looked down at me.
“I’ll cut off her limbs and bury them across the continent.”
Then another man approached, hands clasped behind his back.
Leaning his upper body forward, he exuded a bitter aroma of tea leaves.
“Kill her right away? Death is far too easy a sentence.”
Then the man leaning against the doorframe glared at me and spoke.
“Even at this very moment, the fact that she still breathes is horrifying.”
The four men stared at me with sheer disgust.
I was terrified.
Every gulp of breath felt like their deadly intent was cutting into my lungs.
Finally, the massive magical circle glowed, poised to swallow me whole—
“Gah!”
I snapped my eyes open and sat up abruptly.
Panting, I checked in a panic to see if my neck and limbs were still attached.
Then, an eerie chill ran through me, and I looked around.
I saw a spacious, ornate bedroom that looked like a European medieval set.
What…? I definitely fell asleep in my studio apartment after work…
Could this be a kidnapping? Or am I still dreaming?
Cautiously, I swung my legs off the bed and stepped onto the floor.
The cold wooden floor, spotless and smooth, pressed against my feet, and my dress fell straight to my shins.
I slipped into the slippers beside my feet and stepped out into the bedroom. A wide, long corridor stretched before me.
The maid-dressed women who saw me gasped in shock and hurried off to summon someone.
“Redria!”
At that moment, a middle-aged woman was coming up the central staircase. Seeing me, she let her skirts flutter and ran to embrace me.
I blinked dumbly, still in shock.
What the hell is going on?
As my eyes rolled, I caught sight of a beautiful woman reflected in the wall mirror. My jaw dropped.
She was wearing the exact expression I had made. I tried to stay calm, but my heart pounded wildly.
No way…
Smack!
She slapped my cheek.
It hurt.
So it wasn’t a dream.
When the middle-aged woman gasped in surprise and cupped my cheek with her thin hand, it became even more certain. The warmth of her hand made my cheek sting even more than before.
“Redria, what on earth is wrong with you? You jumped into the pond because you refused to attend the prayer meeting, and now you wake up and slap your own cheek?”
Redria? Prayer meeting?
Blinking repeatedly, I suddenly remembered the novel and the character—and tore at my hair in panic.
“Ahhh!”
I had been possessed.
Of all things… into an apocalypse romance fantasy.
